Madonna recently opened up about a frightening health experience, revealing that she believes she conversed with God during what she described as a “near-death” hospital stay. Last June, the singer battled a severe bacterial infection and spent several days in an intensive care unit.
During a performance in Los Angeles, California, Madonna recounted her ordeal. She revealed that her first word upon emerging from an induced coma after four days was “no.” Reflecting on this, she interpreted it as a divine conversation. “It was pretty scary – obviously I didn’t know for four days because I was in an induced coma, but when I woke up, the first word I said was, ‘No,’” she recalled. “I’m pretty sure God was saying to me, ‘You wanna come with us? You wanna come with me, you wanna go this way?’ And I said, ‘No. No!’”
The Material Girl hitmaker expressed her gratitude to her doctor, who was present in the audience during the show. She shared that the doctor had encouraged her to spend time in the sun as part of her recovery process. “It was so hard for me to walk from my house to the backyard and sit in the sun,” she remembered. “I know that sounds insane, but it was difficult.”
Madonna also talked about the challenge of not knowing when she could fully regain her strength and be herself again. “It was a strange thing to finally not feel like I was in control. That was my lesson to let go,” she continued.
Currently, Madonna is in the middle of the North American leg of her world tour, which was delayed due to her health scare.
